Welcome to my latest exercise in an attempt to reach my goal of being a prolific writer in 2022. So, in addition to writing 1 short story each week (Because Ray Bradbury said you can’t write 52 bad ones – challenge accepted!) I will be attempting to post an original poem each day in April. This is not going to be easy – I’ve not really written poetry since college. So, these will be thrown together each day and not very edited.
I can hear you now – sucky stories and bad poetry? Sign me up.

Here
Here is where I need to be, want to be
Here
but my mind is racing — there, where I will be in an hour, in two
There where I need to be doing something rather than being something
There where productivity is physical
And everyone can see the results of my work
There where there is the appearance of control
Here is where I need to be, want to be
Living in the present rather than the future
Here is where I want to be, need to be
but my mind is stretching backward, where I was last week, last month, last year, or ten
There is where I was, not where I am
There is where I at least knew, not like today
There is where I could control appearances – you only see what I remind you of
There is where results were evident, I existed, I did.
But Here is where I need to be, want to be
Living in the present, rather than the past.
Here, breathing
Here, being
Here, just existing is enough.
Poem is beautifully penned
Just existing is enough sometimes isn’t it? We learnt it hard way in pandemic …
