“You only fail if you stop writing.”
Ray Bradbury
Here at the Story Factory, we value quantity over quality.
More words, more hours, more stories. The goal is 52 stories at the end of the year. So far, we are on target. Which, I know, isn’t much to say at this point of the year, but on the other hand, this time last year, I was already behind. So, Wednesdays, we will report production and celebrate the little victories.
Wednesday 3/10/2021 Production Report:
Words for the week 3/3-3/9 – 6,393
Hours for the week 3/3-3/9 – 37
Cumulative through 3/9
Words – 98,250
Hours – 373
(That includes Morning pages each day, prewriting on either the week’s story or the novel that I am re-writing, and this blog. I only count the short story once, so there is the total for that, and I don’t count the blog on Story Sunday. )
The Art of the Short Story this week will feature Albert Camus’ The Guest.
Analysis:
Creative hours were up this week, thanks to a weekend of filming for the day job. Since I am learning how to do the camera work for video production, I consider it creative hours, even if it is the day job.
The big issue with this week is I did not finish my short story for Sunday. I have written about 325 words on it and then just got stuck. I cannot for the life of me figure out where it is going. I have our coat check girl sitting on a curb in 1963 Poole, Dorset, and have no idea why she is there. (I DO know how she got there and how she will get home to 1947 New York.) So, I will finish the story this week and write the new story that is already scheduled for Sunday. That story will involve a water polo referee who discovers a relative that everyone believed to be dead. Can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
