Welcome to my latest exercise in an attempt to reach my goal of being a prolific writer in 2022. So, in addition to writing 1 short story each week (Because Ray Bradbury said you can’t write 52 bad ones – challenge accepted!) I will be attempting to post an original poem each day in April. This is not going to be easy – I’ve not really written poetry since college. So, these will be thrown together each day and not very edited.
I can hear you now – sucky stories and bad poetry? Sign me up.

Slow
What animal would you be?
The little ice-breaking question
as if one’s favorite animal
gives insight to the soul.
More likely it is aspirational
rather than revealing
that I always reply Otter
Because that seems better
than admitting
I would like to be a sloth.
An active, playful life is more acceptable
Than a sitting life, a clinging life, a molasses life.
Singing the old song —
“Would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar?
And be a lot better off than you are?
Or would you rather be…..a sloth?
Now a sloth is an animal that moves very slow
His velocity is set to really low
He doesn’t ever hurry
He takes his time
Never does he scurry
and he’s just fine
So if you are cut from the same cloth
You would rather be a sloth”
Bradbury is right!

Hah, this one is especially telling after your R poem. Go ahead, just be a sloth!
