The beginning of the shadow
initiation of dread
creeping, creeping heaviness
starting innocently enough
just a little shadow at the very edge
Fed by nothing but time

Once it begins
and hope is blocked by the earth and its things
all I can do is wait
for time and its work
and feed the hope
as it fed the dread
and lightness once again wins

why does it take so long though?
why can’t it just be a flash of dread
Instead of a flash of hope?
I look for the helpers
but all I see sometimes
is the blood moon
a harbinger of
blood oranges
and clean up on aisle one.
