The sky is too dark
for this time of the morning
just last week
I was bathed in new day sun at this time of day
and now I am drowning in darkness
the sky is too dark for this time
this morning

I guess the sun worked
much too hard this summer
long days
no rain
day after day of heat advisories
the sun had overtime hours
and is ready for a break
so it is relaxing into the fall
days shorten with with
the sun’s new laziness.

I am not ready
for shorter days
darker mornings
darker dinner times
I would rather compromise
with a daily
solstice.
