So many plans, dreams, goals
to squeeze into this one small life
on top of the chores that come
with living said life

The Cult of Productivity urges me on
break things into steps
make a todo list
plan a time block

But
It seems I must really stare
at the new tree
that has finally grown to the top
of the neighbors’ cedar fence
the morning sun turning
the leafy tips into golden coins

Somehow, I neglected to add this to the todo list
because the urgent is louder than the important
but this tree is important
if only because it reminds me to
sit still
breathe
be

And the kitchen floor will still be dirty tomorrow.
