It’s more than coins in my pocket
although it can be just as heavy
noisy – a clattering, metallic din
But it has been in the air we breathe
for so long now
I’ve become used to,
if change-tolerance is a thing
like the tolerance that builds with daily wine
more and more to feel the buzz
Change
more and more to feel the buzz
of new, different, exciting
Not hiding from the new
but instead seeking it out
but looking for where it lurks
behind doors, and in help-wanted ads
Change
the opposite sometimes
of the slow and steady endurance
of the long obedience in the same direction
the opposite also of boredom
the opposite also of stagnancy

Change
may not be for the better
and may just be for it’s own sake
but to sip the cup of change
seems to be the thing to do right now.
