  1. Read everything. Some things more than once
  2. Try out for plays, and perform them. Sometimes words can only be aloud.
  3. Sing in the chorus. Sometimes words need accompaniment.
  4. You can’t listen if you are talking. Writers need to listen, and save the words for the page.
  5. Pay attention to everything.
  6. Libraries are palaces, authors are royalty.
  7. It’s okay to be obsessed with something for a few weeks/months/years
  8. When the obsession is over, find a new one
  9. if you can’t find the words, draw or hum.
  10. Words are like Legos — they can build unique creations, but they can hurt when you are not expecting them.
