No matter how I start new habits,
it seems the only habit I am
remarkably consistent with
is starting over.
My motto seems to be
if at first you don’t succeed
(and I never do)
so it’s start, start again.
I can habit track in all sorts of
cute notebooks
phone apps
and even Seinfeld’s calendar of red X’s
there seems to be just one in a row,
surrounded by the space of giving up
of not trying
or maybe seeing some other
shiny new habit that I want more.
How many Day 1’s
until the doing is consistent
rather than the starting over?
That is the question
after all these beginnings.
But maybe the sun feels the same
Consistently starting new days
is the habit there,
and then finishing them.
